Lonely Planet has named 22 local sites in their top 500.
The travel guidebook publisher has ranked Great Britain’s unmissable experiences and hidden gems.
Leading the way for the local attractions was 50th placed Christ Church College described by Lonely Planet as a place where “literary heritage, movie mania, immense arts riches and outstanding architecture collide.”
Making it into the top 100 were 63rd placed Pitt Rivers Museum, 82nd placed Bodleian Library and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, Blenheim Palace, was number 97 on the list.
Rated among the best local experiences were the early morning May Day celebrations on Magdalen Bridge and July’s Royal Regatta in Henley which both made the top 150.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe claimed the top spot in the list with the British Museum, Giant’s Causeway and Stonehenge all claiming their places in the top ten.
